5.3 Observation Tasks

1. There are significant differences in relation to what the baby can do when he/she is sitting or standing rather than lying on the back(supine) or on the front (prone.). Please comment on this! 

2. There are many different styles of crawling—— what parts of the baby’s body are touching the ground? Describe at least two different ways the babies crawl!

3. How does the baby stop himself/herself from falling over?

4. Comment on their exploration with toys while on the mat, in front of the mirror. How do the babies interact with the mirror?

5. In the video they take a closer look at fine motor skills including eye-hand coordination. Comment on the toys/activities given to encourage the development of hand-eye coordination.

6. Write your thoughts on the adults in this video. Write about the ways they supported movement development.

7. Tell me your impressions of the environment. In your opinion did it offer support for the development of movement?

8. What are the biggest obstacles to a child’s movement development?
